Three very interesting observations I made with my late mother:
1. She used to be easily irritated and sulky for quite a while afterwards. In dementia, she forgot what she was irritated about and therefore did not sulk. She was so much more fun to be with in dementia!
2. When we bought her a new piece of clothing, she used to look in the wardrobe and say: "Now whose clothes are these?" and we learned to live with her wearing her old pieces (bought before dementia set in) till the end.
3. What went into the head via the senses was not retained in the memory stores. But what went through the emotions (sadness, love, happiness) was retained and could be related in detail.
