I prefer not to fall victim to overt propaganda from heavy marketing campaigns designed to artificially manipulate the market to increase profits for corporations who literally created a cartel and contributed to the blood diamond trade which resulted in uncounted atrocities of death and war over little bits of carbon.
If someone wants to symbolize their love for me, I’d much rather it be something accurately symbolic and also useful. If they want to make a commitment to me for longevity, an investment in a house or business or other property that actually requires a long-term commitment to maintain would be both accurate and useful. If they want to symbolize their love and their passion, there are a million other things that would represent that better than a cold stone. If they want to honor me as a person and what I bring to the relationship, knowing my feelings about history and social issues by giving me something relevant to my values would be much more honorable.
